The Free Company has been front and centre at the Battle of Cidaris, sufferinghardships and bleeding for the Northern victory.

Yet it is said there is no rest for the wicked...

In the summer the Free Company were the catalyst for a rebellion in the Duchy of Toussaint against their Nilfgaardian rulers. With the Company’s help the Toussaintois defended themselves from the Imperial counterattack, and the fighting seriously impeded the Empire’s war efforts further north.

The coming of winter should have marked a welcome respite from battle for the defenders of the rebellious Duchy of Toussaint, but a deceptive lull in the fighting has been followed by an Imperial assault of renewed savagery. It has become clear that defeat in Cidaris and heavy pressure along the Pontar has forced Nilfgaardian Army Command into a dangerous gamble. They have forgone preparations for winter, and instead surged troops forward, spending their reserves and supplies on a general advance. This offensive has caught the Toussaintois off guard, and sorely in need of rest and resupply, their lines are stretched thin and their continued resistance hinges on holding their capital at Beauclaire.

The next few days are of critical importance. Unless the Imperial attack can be checked, the Duchy will fall, extinguishing the rebellion and freeing two army groups to join the war in the North. If the assault fails, then the consequences will be dire for the invaders, starvation or surrender their only options.

The spark of hope has not yet been trampled into ashes; some place their faith in reported manifestations of Saint Lebioda, others in the knights errant still searching for la Dame du Lac and the legendary sword Aerondight, others in the elusive folk hero known as the Dragon of Toussaint. What is clear is that without some miracle the exhausted defenders are days from defeat. And were all that not enough, something great and terrible is waking in the dark beneath the Continent.

Something ancient and now reunited with a long-lost piece of itself stirs its leviathan coils in hunger, called by the chaos and bloodshed of nearly a decade of war. Is humanities twilight at hand? Will the prophecies of the Black Sun come to fruition? Even for the dauntless Free Company, the odds seem bleak...
